Things to think on, will it scale down to letter head and go on envelopes and or invoices and be recognizable. Will it reproduce in black and white ? Can it be printed on a tee shirt or hat without looking crummy? Does it look good and is clean lines can you break it down to a simpler form and still recognize it?

I'd try to find a graphic designer / logo designer to work with and do it right as you may not have the chance to change it later.
follow this advice to the T!

can do your logo for you as well if you would like

Lots of people make their own.

Lots of people get others to make 'em for free.

I don't know how many pay a professional to do it, but certainly that is an option.

When I finally decide to get a website up and running, I'll probably get my sister to do it. A great option is to probably stalk some photoshop forums, people around there love projects to work on, especially as long as you are ok with them showing off their work they did for you.

Agreed, many can design their own, but there are many very poor designs out there too. I have an acquaintance whom designs fonts and basically supports his family by going after business whom have violated his copyright of his fonts... (free to use for non commercial use) designers (ok good designers) have clear rights over elements many amateurs do not pay close attention to things like mis-used fonts they buy a font collection and think they can use them freely, and that is not often the case. There is a reason why it is a 4 year B Com Design degree.

It is certainly debatable for a side home business but if you plan on doing it seriously My advise is to take your business identity (logo, name, corporate colours ect.) as seriously as your reputation they are linked together.

I've been looking into getting one done myself. I don't have enough creative talent to do it myself, plus I really don't even know what I would want! I'm having a hard time finding someone I want to make one for me as well. I don't want to spend a ton of money on it yet, but I also don't want one that looks like I made it. For now I sit in wait till I find the style I'm looking for
