    Mites

Monty has mites....poor guy . I'll hvae to pick some stuff up at the pet store tomorrow when I go get some mice. I saw about 3 of them on his head, and watched one crawl up into his Pit organ. Should I be concerned?

Just be careful with P-A-M it is not good for YOU. If you are interested in other methods that require lots of effort I can post them if you want. I am tired of spending lots of effort typing to just be told that chemicals are the only way. They are not, but with out them there is lots more labour. Your choice let me know if you are interested in alternatives.

Reptile relief has always worked for me. I'm kinda a green person and don't really like using chemicals in my house so I've never used PAM.

YES! I forgot what it was called. But that's what my friend told me to go to the pet store and pick up.

First off I work with a rescue group and this works it is a lot of work however.

The enclosure must be isolated mites will sometimes walk surprising far to lay eggs. I usually will place the snake in a tub and that tub in a second larger one that has a deep layer of diatomaceous earth. (mites cannot lay outside and return.)

Every thing need to be spotless. I mean spotless, the tub cover surrounding area everything. The snake needs to be soaked in water with some soap in it. (not detergent, soap makes bubbles detergent does not.) enough for a bubble or two not tons but some. soak for 20 or 30 min once a day. I'd likely not feed at this point. Every time you soak the snake the tub needs to be cleaned. Boiling water is what I use it will kill the mite eggs. Soak and wash the whole thing and be diligent. Keep this up for 15 days. keep the humidity in the tub low as low as you can with the soaking the snake will not be dehydrated. Mites need humidity and heat to live a well hydrated snake does just fine at lower humidity for a while. After 15 days reduce the soaking to once every 3 days and cleaning too for a week or so. This only works if you kill the eggs so the cleaning is very very important! the adults live on the snake but lay off it. Kill the adults and destroy the eggs and you will get them all.
