What kind of probe? thermostat or thermometer?
Thermometer probes I just place on the substrate top under the hot and cool hides.

Thermostat: On the UTH under the enclosure

Thermometer: This varies. Some BP's are burrowers, For the ones that burrow down to the glass (or plastic) I put the probe under the substrate. If they just sit on top.. you get the point .

    Cheers.
