I once thought Meatball had a RI because I heard a whistle and after a very close facial exam I noticed he had shed stuck in his nostrils. I had to pull it out with tweezers because it was SO small but the air squeezing out or in was making the whistling sound. Good luck!

Yeah, it's fairly common for them to hiss when picked up. Hissing isn't always in response to being upset. My oldest bp, just about the sweetest animal I have ever worked with in my life, likes to talk (hiss). In my experience bp hisses are typically more of a 'hey, what's going on' than a reaction to stress.

I don't think I have ever heard a bp hiss. So far all of my snakes have been relatively silent... except this little whistle today. I will keep a close eye on her, but since she only did it twice I am not going to panic yet. I will take a closer look at her vents, see if maybe a little piece got stuck. I thought she'd gotten the entire shed off, but maybe there was a piece missing. It was a pretty bad shed... part of the reason I felt I had to rescue the poor girl in the first place!

Then there may be some stuck in her nostrils. You may not be able to see it, but it's nothing to worry about as long as the next shed goes well. She was a rescue? Kudos to you! How long has it been since you rescued her?

It has been about three weeks since I picked her up. Here's the link to the original post with all the pictures of my little rescue baby. Love her to death, she's the sweetest thing, just has some serious scarring that needs to be overlooked to see her true beauty.

Make sure you check her nostrils, not her vents. I mean you can check the vents as well but that is not where the whistling would be coming from.

UPDATE: Okay so I went to take Sally out the other day to meet my best friend. This time it was definitely a hiss. She thought she was very scary, puffed up a little and hissed. I assume since she hissed this time that the first time was in fact just a little hissy fit. She settled immediately when I picked her up, just thought it was cute that she hissed lol.
