About new animals/during quarantine

I am very curious about the answers that people are going to put up on this thread. Has anyone for their new snakes, during the quarantine process, have actually seen mites, RI, or anything. And the new snakes are from reputable breeders like Royal constrictor designs, Ralph davis, etc. I ask this because I'm very curious if people, during quarantine, and actually see something dangerous in the snake tub and have gotten the new snake from reputable breeders. Oh and if you went some other place with pets or something during quarantine process and after that you saw mites or whatever, that doesn't count as seeing something because that might not have been from the breeder.

I spotted mites before on a Corn I used to have and the 2nd Ball I ever acquired, spotted an RI in a Blood/Borneo mix I had and in my Dumeril's boa, as well as extremely strange behavior in an Albino Burm I was fostering to try to get her to eat (twisting of the neck, uncoordinated actions, etc.) which could have been caused from lack of nutrition or disease.

Although thankfully with quarantine I didn't see any of those symptoms spread to my established collection.

These snakes exhibited these symptoms in the first couple days to the first week of having them. Each were treated according to what they had, except for the Burm which I had put down because of the symptoms being similar to untreatable viruses and due to the lack of improvement during the time I kept her.

So, this means to ALWAYS QUARANTINE new arrivals. You never know what could show up and how threatening it could be towards your established collection.

EDIT: Also, none of those snakes had come from reputable breeders. That also shows you to choose wisely where you get your animals. The BOI is excellent for looking up feedback on breeders.

From a trusted breeder, no, we have had no issues, but that is no excuse for not placing new arrivals in QT. From people we don't know, yes, there have been issues. We bought a pair of carpets a while back from someone we didn't know and low and behold a couple weeks later, we had mites. Luckily we caught it early and treating it wasn't really a big deal.

Have I had it happen to me personally? No, but has it happened to other people? Definitely. If you pick up a snake from a reputable breeder that doesn't have mites from an expo it is a very possible that the snake could pick up mites at the show. Just because the breeder has a great reputation doesn't mean there aren't ways that you could still end up with mites or some other health problem. Shipping is stressful and temps may drop more than expected, an URI is very possible there. There's always something that could go wrong, and planning for that is much easier than waiting for something bad to happen.

It's just best to quarantine everything regardless of who they come from!
