Regurgitation

Hey guys... so I was so excited on Wednesday when Crawly ate. She struck, coiled, and gobbled down her food. Its the first time she's struck and eaten two weeks in a row, so I was thrilled! This morning when I woke up and went into the kitchen I noticed that Crawly had regurgitated her meal.

There was the rat crawler all slimey and half digested in her tub. Crawly is curled up on top of her hide. I just don't know what happened. I did lift her hide last night to check on her... I hope that didn't stress her out to the point that she would regurgitate.

What do I do? I have the rat in a baggy in the freezer, I wasn't sure if I should throw it away or keep it. Bah.

You can definitely throw away that rat! I would not attmept to feed the snake for two weeks now because when they regurge it is very hard on the system. Do you measure your temps at all?

The temps in the tub or the temps of the rat? I do measure my temps in the tub, there is a probe, unfortunately Crawly is being manually monitered with a dimmer switch right now until the flexwatt gets here and I can get everything going with the thermo. I do not have a temp gun for the rats, so I haven't been checking them. I leave them in the plastis baggy, floating in warm water for about 30 minutes. Feel them to make sure they are thawed all the way through, then I use a blow dryer for 60 seconds counted out to warm them. I wasn't sure if I should keep it in case I needed to take her to the vet or if I should just chuck it. I wasn't going to attempt refeeding it or anything. Okay, I will wait two weeks before trying to feed her again.

+1, also might be a good idea to have a fecal test done for parasites with the next defecation.

You didn't stress her out by lifting up her hide, that won't cause a regurg. It wasn't your fault, unless you warmed up the rat too much, which it sounds like you thawed it just right, so I wouldn't worry about anything you did. Get that fecal and DO NOT feed for a couple weeks, as everyone else mentioned.
