Supermans home is finally done!! (DUW)

We're finally done with Superman's new enclosure. It is smaller than originally intended but we left a great way to expand if needed later. It's a fully enclosed, fully insulated wooden enclosure. Here are some pics of the process

We built in a hinged-top hidey hole in one corner and the top doubles as the basking spot.

From the top of the hide box we built a ramp along the back wall that leads to another platform.

We sealed the wood with a couple coats of a waterbased sealant to help with the moisture not ruining it in a couple months. And boxed out an entryway to help keep the substrate in and give us standing room in the entrance.

    Ready to add the monster!!!

Expressing her displeasure at all my photo taking

    Nap time finally

We still are adding substrate, we could only haul so much and thought we had enough!! She's grown so much since we've gotten her and if she hits her full potential we plan on building a second enclosure that is joined to the first by the window on the side where the top platform is.

She seems to use every inch of the new place but we're having a heck of a time catching her out of her water enough to clean it!! She spends most of the day while we're at work basking and the evenings and nights she sleeps half in and half out of the water!!

He seems to like it. It looks good. I have to give some love cause I know I have to pay to get a comment on my Vivarium Im building and people dont understand the hard work you put into it. So awesome job, I love to see the builds that people do. Its nice to see other people put that much effort into their animals!

oh man, We bought everything in pieces so I wouldn't have an exact amount. I do know that we have at least $900 in it though.

oh sweet. the few people i've talked to who build large enclosures for big snakes and monitors all estimated around 1000 - 1500 for them to build a cage. i always thought it would be more fun to build it myself

I think the most expensive stuff was the trough, the plexi and the insulation. The hardware (hinges, locks, door handle and wheels) and wood wasn't too bad. we used concrete board for the floor and part way up the walls and we framed out a place for the lights so we can remove the whole fixture from the outside to change bulbs. It was an interesting project for sure.

That enclosure is just amazing, you did such a fantastic job! I'm sure he loves it so much. It definitely seems to fit his liking very well.
