I am glad you are ok. Is is interesting what happens to us when we are in a situation like that. I bet he thinks twice before taking on anyone again. Now you can say you are a black belt in backpack .

Glad you're ok, sounds like it ended the best way possible and you weren't a victim... could have been much worse.
Next time please use your best defensive weapon... your brain, no walking across campus (or anywhere for that matter) in the middle of the night unescorted.
WHEN SECONDS COUNTS, THE POLICE ARE JUST MINUTES AWAY.

Re: Lost My Temper on a Mugger.

thank god it was only a "dinky little knife" & not a gun!
you schooled him on better life choices & owned him at the same time! that had to be the most educating (& embarrassing) beat down he's ever gotten! hope he takes your advice.
on a serious note, coming from experience, having actually been a victim of assault, it's hard to have to choose between fight or freeze but it all boils down to weighing the possible outcomes of both decisions & choosing to do what may help you survive the encounter, whether or not weapons are visible.
i froze during one assault because i sensed that resisting/fighting would only make it worse. for the longest time though, I hated myself for not fighting back but had to finally accept that i did the best thing i could in that situation & got out of it with my life.
yet shortly after that, i endured severe abuse in a relationship from which i ended up pregnant & in the end, i got hot-headed & ran my mouth & although i was badly hurt for it, i got my point across to him that he no longer had power over me anymore & it's been 10 yrs since i've heard from him. i dont regret it & i'd do it again.
because of that experience i'm feisty as hell now & i can grow a rather large set sometimes in my current relationship & i'm thankful my better half is not the aggressive type too. he knows when to tell me to chill out & when to just back off & let me blow my steam cuz i'll eventually get over myself & calm down & begin thinking rationally again...& most importantly he knows why i'm so aggressive & although he doesnt like it sometimes, he understands.
so anyways, please be safe & weigh the outcomes next time, god forbid there ever is a next time.

Re: Lost My Temper on a Mugger.

Oh wow, this thread exploooooaded in comments while I was sleeping and in class!

I agree with all of you who said that what I did was dangerous. After sleeping on it, I realized just how bad it could have ended up. However, I don't regret what I did -- and I hope the guy learned a valuable lesson.

Now though... when faced with 4 labs worth of reports to grade, I am kinda wishing I had given him the backpack simply so I didn't have to grade them. Lol.

I do stupid things when I am exhausted . Some good did come of it though, before when I asked for rides home - campus security always said no, not anymore!

When I walk at night, it is rarely alone. I have a friend who usually stays during my shift with me to study together then afterwards walks me home, and once we get there I drive him to his place. Last night though, he was sick and I made him stay home instead of keeping me company. I made the mistake of telling him what happened and got a 3 hour lecture from him.

@ mommanessy247 - I am very, very, glad that you are in a relationship now with somebody who respects and loves you. I also really look up to you, that you were able to get yourself out of the situation you were in. I know too many people who need to get out but are to afraid.

Part of my anger stems from the fact that my whole life people have taken advantage of me, or underestimated me. About a month ago, I got out of a parasitic relationship where I was doing all the bending and the giving, and getting nothing in return - and I feel that part of my snapping last night at the mugger, was a result to still being upset and angered by the relationship. It was the icing on the cake. I'm normally a very even tempered person and it takes a lot to make me angry.

Sounds like this may have been very therapeutic for you! Glad you're alright.

ha that was such a cool post

i'm proud of ya, and i shared the story with my co-workers lol. as you said before, you know you made a dangerous decision, but hey, it worked out. that's all that matters. i'm sure the mugger didn't stand a chance against a woman with a bottle full or stored frustration

as the 'ol saying goes "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"

Our brains are extremely crafty, we have a fight or flight reflex and our brains processes a million things a second when it happens. Your brain decided that fight was the best option and you whooped butt!

I am shocked no one has mentioned this is why we need to be able to carry guns on campus... Just saying
