The rat should be about as warm as you are. Your body temp should be about 98 +/- and the rat should be about as warm as your skin which might be a bit cooler than your core body temp. 98-100 would be good. If you are unsure, use your laser themometer and test your skin under your arm or chin and match the rat to about that temp.
