Cheapest Temporary Hatchling Tub Setup ?

    Hey guys,

So Im getting a new lesser girl in about 3 weeks. I plan to order the Boaphile 10 shoebox racks because its only $219 with shipping and heating, most economical for me at the moment. I have heard the wait times are up to 5 weeks after payment. This may cause problems for me because I am getting my snake on Dec 6th and the racks may not arrive until a week after that.

What is the cheapest, but still safe, solution for housing a hatchling for a week? Is it better to just wait until the racks are here to pick her up (although the breeder doesnt really want to hold her too much longer)? I am wondering if I could just house her in a cheap Sterilite from Walmart with a UTH under it. Newspaper as bedding, and buy some small hides and water dishes from Walmart, as well? I think I have the pre-new snake jitters.. Just wanna make sure everything's perfect for her heh. I already bought a herpstat for the rack so I can use that to regulate the UTH, and I'd have to get a temp gun as well as a digital hygro.

    Thanks guys
    Matt

All the rack does is hold tubs plus a little insulation. Keep the temp right and that should be fine for a week. I've seen people with tubs just stacked on top of each other on the floor.

Your thoughts about housing are fine. A tub with a lid and a UTH with a thermostat will work perfectly. I don't even buy hides, i cut them out of cardboard boxes to keep costs down. newspaper, water, UTH with a thermostat and a hide out of cardboard in a sterilite tub will work great. Just remember to put holes in the tub

Here is the link to a thread that I made on the basic tub set-up. You can make whatever adaptations you need to fit your particular situation. Hope it helps...
