Recently started eating backwards
For the past few feedings Tuna has gone straight for the butt of the f/t rats and will swallow them backwards. She is ~140g and I've been feeding her fuzzies, so I don't think the rat's are too small.
Guess sometimes it is ok to go butt to mouth <___________<

It may be the warmer end of the rat and easier to grab. It happens, no harm no foul.

Ha, Be careful, your probably going to end up with an infraction for that little three letter word, I learned the hardway. As far as eating backwards, it happens, fuzzies are pretty small and easy to put down. Once you go bigger she'll more than likely eat the right way. Although some jsut take it down the hardway.

Re: Recently started eating backwards
I'm not too worried about it since she's a beast at eating, ate right through her shed...I just find it odd. I make sure to only heat up the head of the rat and I measure the temp of the head and body. My only guess is that the hind quarters are softer and she doesn't want to strike at the hard bony head lol
Thanks for the heads up CCfive but it doesn't seem to let me edit that post lol

I would up the size to pups or weanlings. ... fuzzies are really small, one step above pinky. You need at least pups, lots of bps take pups from birth.

Guess i shouldn't have bought 50 fuzzies recently lol. She seems full after eating though. When i was feeding her smaller rats she would take two. Now she takes one fuzzy, they are about 15-20g, and goes back in her hide.

you need to be feeding 10-15% of her body weight. Try feeding a second one if they aren't big enough. Eating backwards is a sign of the prey being too small.
