Ball Python gets extremely active while handling?
Hey guys!
My name is Taylor and I am new to the forum! Im excited about learning from all you guys/gals and hopefully contributing a little as well! I have had my ball python for about a month now, he is a normal and is about 19 inches long. I don't know his weight because I have no way to weigh him. He usually spends all his time in his hides, alternating from the cool to the warm. The temps are warm:91, cool:82, middle:84, humidity:65%. I have two hides, branches and foliage and a water bowl. He spends most of his time in his hides with his head hanging out and watching what is going on around him. He used to just curl up and barely explore, staying really close to my hand when I first started handling him. I figured he would stay that way because of what I have read online. However, the other night, I took him out and had him out for about 45 minutes, the longest I have ever had him out. He did excellent, staying around my hand/arm and running up my sleeve onto my shoulder. I took him out again last night, with the same results. However, tonight when I took him out, he was crazy. Slithering pretty fast up my shirt, around my neck, up on my head, around the back of the couch, etc... everywhere! Is this normal ball behavior?? I read they are slow movers and usually aren't that active? By the way, he was eating live when I bought him, brought him home, first attempt at feeding F/T and he nailed it the first try. Has eaten a hopper mouse every Thursday since then. I will be upping the size when i get more food for him this weekend.

mine goes through kinda "mood swings" like that, sometimes he balls up in my hands and sometimes he's all over the place, if hes too active, i figure hes stressed so i put him back
and welcome to the site!

Some days mine sits on the couch next to me or on my lap for an hour and some days I have to pull her back from crawling in between the couch or off it or in a hole ever 30 seconds. Just depends on her mood.

Well thank you guys for the replies. And thank you for saying that I am educated on Ball Pythons. I tend to do a lot of research before I make a decision and did A LOT about Ball Pythons before deciding to actually get one. I like to think about like if I was a pet, I would want the owner to know everything they could about me before they bought me and brought me home.
