    question about guessing age

nearby exotic shop has adult male crestie - obviously male - obviously adult - but was wondering - does the fact that it still has it's tail even imply that it's not too old - i guess my thought would be that a several year old would have lost its tail - what about this / - tail loss issue - what types of things make them lose them in captivity and how often do you see a 5 yearold for example with a tail?

It seems tail loss is much more prevalent in younger animals. From reading and looking around when an older animal has it's tail, it's much more likely to keep it unless a traumatic experience entails. It can still happen, at any time, for any reason. I personally like the little frog butts.

I don't think age has anything to do with dropped tails really, well, it could I suppose, but I've had my boy for 5 years and he was already 7 inches when I got him(It was written down in a notebook he was that size that time) and now 9 inches 5 years later, so he's probably 6 and a couple months. He was not tiny when I got him.
But that aside, he's still got his tail. I got him from Petco, too.(I was 9, I knew no better and fell instantly in love with the crested geckos, perfect reptile for someone that age).
I don't see him losing his tail anytime soon either. He'll hang off my finger with his tail, too, it's cute! XD
Our other gecko, she's about 1, also has her tail.
I think tailless ones are actually very cute though. :3
