looks good.
personally i'd switch it over to coco fiber, but as long as you're not feeding crix you'll be good with that setup

Re: I'm hooked
educate me - why is the coco better for insect feeding - the reptibark says it's better because the crickets can't hide as well as they can in the coco - i'm guessing your saying that due to potential impaction from feeding off the bark??
probably want use crickets - thats why i chose a crestie - thanks in advance

yes, mainly for the inpaction, the chunks are easier to spit out but if swallowed it could be a big problem.
crix aren't bad for them in small doses, I give my breeders a couple a week, but i think of crix for cresties like McD's for my grandkids, they love it but I don't want the junkfood for them
If you're just gonna stick with CGD, almost any substrate that holds humidity will work.

I was told (by the breeder that we bought him from) that the sodium concentration in coco fiber is so high that it would kill a crestie before the impaction would, and even in small doses can prove fatal.

With every crested gecko i've owned & produced, i've kept them ALL On coco fiber without ANY Problems, Some would eat some with a cricket or two, No deaths! Other then that great looking setup! Good luck & All the best

I've honestly never heard of that. I keep my 2 breeding pairs in palnted terrariums with the only soil being coco fiber with a drainage layer of leca. haven't had a problem other than the first eggs were buried in the soil instead of the laybox.
the last 3 years my girls goto the layboxes or the plants. I only mist the cocofiber around the plant bases now, as between both, it was staying too humid.
I think I'd like to chat with that breeder to see where the info about the sodium content was found

Just relaying what I was told.
Big Yeck, aka Eric Yeckering, is who we got him from. Really is a good guy and established crestie breeder, I don't have any reason to doubt what he said.
EDIT: Just googled it, here's a link:
http://www.generalhydroponics.com/bl...-out-the-salt/
doesn't say anything about cresties, but does talk about very high sodium concentrations...

The net is full of articles about the high sodium content. Here's another link. (NOT saying that you should believe everything you read on the net, but there are numerous articles)

Hey, if it works for you guys, great; I'm not going to trust it.
BTW.....great looking setup!!

I wouldn't worry about the substrate you are using unless you have a gravid female. The only reason being is it would make it hard to find eggs. Other than that, feed insects outside the enclosure. It is a lot of fun to watch them eat. They don't seem to be affected by being taken outside of the enclosure to feed anyway. I find coco fiber to be a pain in the ass. It's messy, too fine, and I just plain don't like it. That's just me.
The setup looks great, the more "clutter" you have the better. I'm not sure how big the setup is but many recommend to keep them in smaller setups until they are older, just like BPs. Hatchlings I keep in 6qt and so on and so on.
Anyway, congrats on the new addition. Crested Geckos are a ton of fun. I went from 1 male last November to 12 around a month ago. Good luck only having one, haha.
