Depends on the set up. you can set enclosures this way or not it is personal and what kind of environment you live in.

Any UTH needs a thermostat. Whether you choose to have a UTH for the cool side or not is up to you.

Depends on your ambient temperatures. Normally people do UTH or flexwatt heat tape for hot side and nothing on cold side. In cold rooms, often a heat emitter is added but often the room is just heated.

Thanks for the input guys! I just bought a temp gun and the temp for the cool side is 75 F! I just ordered another t-stat and it will arrive on thursday. I guess I have two days.. Maybe this also the same reason, why she is so active in the morning and not in the evening.

the herpstat two is perfect for controlling 2 different heating elements. my room is usually 70 degrees and my snakes are in a rack system. I have flexwatt on along the sides and on the bottom for my hotspot. this gives me an ambient 82-84, cool side surface 78-80, and hot spot of 88-90.

Just to be clear most off the shelf UTH absolutely need so kind of regulation. However there are some on the market that are designed to never get over 90 and some will not get much over 80ºF.
If you are planning on a second UTH My personal advise is two fold use a T-stat to control it. Choose a lower wattage unit that is not going to get dangerously hot even if your t-stat fails, and use a fail-safe system.

Depends on the UTH Ultratherm, Fluker, and Rzilla will not get hotter then 100 degrees. I have used all 3 and never once used a thermostat on them. My Fluker has been running 24/7 for almost 3 years now without a tstat and never had an issue at all.
What size tub are you using or is it a glass tank? If it's a glass tank cover up 90% of the top and the temps will go up all the heat is escaping out the top. No need to get a second tstat.
