    Combination Beardie enclosure/rack system

Im thinking about building a rack system similar to the sketch i have, it would be built to incorporate this:

and the rest will be similar to this (the beardie half and rack half wouldnt be attached, just sat next to each other)

it would be built to accept 4x41 qt tubs laying sideways which are 35.5x16.5x6 (or maybe 2 smaller tubs)

The outer shell would be melamine, shelves may be or may not be.

Flexwatt would be used to belly/back heat as well as appropriate temp control/monitoring.

Everyone whos had experience with rack systems have any opinions on this? if you think its garbage please say so i wont be offended, im still learning about rack systems and what makes them work well so hopefully you expirienced folk will have some good input.

    Thanks!

looks pretty sweet to me! only thing I have heard (and this is just based of what i've heard) is that pulling out 41 qt tubs sideways can make them kind of unsturdy compared to pulling them out the long way. if you had room or if it was going in a corner, maybe make it so they could slide out the side but its a minor suggestion and this design should work just fine! Nice job.

Thanks! I was trying to keep it as close to the wall as i could and keep it flush with everything else, weight wise for a tub, the water dish ect and a full grown ball your talking what 10 lbs?

I've always built my melamine racks sideways like you have pictured. I have yet to have any problems. The plans look great to me. The only thing is you better be ready to make another because 4 tubs won't last long.

That could be an interesting idea. It would turn it into an L-Shape unit.

I didn't hear the whole shelf would be unsturdy, i meant the tub would be undsturdy when pulled out, as far as tipping and spilling water or falling. and like i said, i wouldn't read too far into it. i've just read others mention it. should be fine the way you have it!

Oh alrighty! I gotcha, well i would probably try to put it on a roller or something so the whole shelf will slide out so i dont have to support the rack while removing the snake.

only problem with that is if you had uncovered tubs, the tub below would be uncovered then, and might be a pain if you have a snake that realizes the tops off. like i said man, the way you have it will work just fine. i know others put them sideways with no problems so if the shoe fits, wear it.
