    Quarantine Rack

Can someone tell me the purpose of this? Why do you need a rack when you are quarantining one snake? And if this if for multiple snakes, I thought you are supposed to separate the snakes in order to quarantine.

If you get multiple snakes at once you can put them all in the same quarantine rack. For example I go to my local show, and buy 4 snakes. I can put them all in the same rack for the QT period.

The same rule applies if you get a number of snakes over a quick period of time. Say you get 4 snakes within 3 months. You can still put them in the same qt rack, but you just restart the time once the last one was put in.

I would not recommend introducing a new snake to a qt rack if any of the snakes are almost done with their qt period.

But those 4 snakes aren't always going to be from the same breeder. And if you buy from other breeders, that could risk the other snakes in the qt rack with mites and stuff. I just dont get how its different from another rack. By putting a new snake into the qt rack is also kinda risking your new collection as well. Am I right?

I agree with you. I understand the concept of a QT rack but I don't necessarily agree with it. However if you have a space or room where you qt new snakes, regardless whether they are in separate enclosures or not, chances are if one animal has mites, all the animals will get them. That why PAM is a good idea to use every time you bring a new snake in. kill the mites before they spread. I think bigger breeders tend to buy multiple snakes at once from a single source and have a rack just for this purpose. It sucks having 10 tanks lying around for QT. Personally I have two 2 door 4x2x1 PVC enclosures that I use for QT.

PAM is a good product to use for bringing in new snakes but PAM really doesnt kill the mites on the snake. I think qt racks are better for snakes that come from one breeder, not from different breeders or else it would be pointless to have a qt rack.

I think I get where you're coming from but my understanding of a QT rack is this. Let's say I have 6 racks that are 10 tub racks. So 60 tubs filled with snakes. I order 4 new snakes, 2 from breeder A and 2 from breeder B. I throw the 2 new A snakes into my QT rack in my other room. a week later I get my 2 B snakes and throw them in the QT rack. At this point I am putting my 2 new A snakes at risk from B breeder snakes BUT I am keeping my 60 snakes safe from the risk of A and B... I hope that makes sense because in my mind it did.
