    Weird Eating Habits?

Hey y'all! So I just fed Bonnie for the first time yesterday and noticed a few things about the way she ate that were entirely different from any of my other balls. She struck within the first minute and coiled, which wasn't all that odd. Then she dropped it, did laps around her tub, came back and coiled it again. Then when she was through she took it by the tail and pulled it all over her tub. Anytime somebody would go near her tub she'd drop it and get right up to the edge, like she was defending her rat. Eventually she settled and ate, I just thought the dragging it around bit was kinda funny. Anyone else have snakes that do this or maybe some other weird eating habit?

    Hey,

Yeah my ball does this sometimes too. Don't know why but as long as he eats I'm happy lol. He likes to suck on their legs too. LOL

    Eating quirks for different snakes.

One of my big girls has struck, coiled, "killed" her feeder then in the end didn't even eat it.

My jungle BCI will strike, coil, "kill", then spend a lot of time trying to figure out which end to start at. Sometimes he'll do butt first.

If I leave a feeder in the tub (F/T) some will just cruise all over it and seemingly not notice it until they actually find it (after moving over it several times) then strike it as if it was alive.

Oddly enough that is what Clyde did. He was all coiled like he wanted to strike the rat, never did. So I left it there for him. He crawled all over it for several hours. I thought he honestly wasn't going to eat it. Next thing I know, I walk by and the rat is gone. So he must have at some point decided it was in fact food and not a jungle gym.

Sounds like she might just be a shy eater, after she wraps it I'd put a towel over the tub and not even look under it for a good 15mins.

    Re: Weird Eating Habits?

I've kinda wondered this in the past also. Mostly because of my snake Meatball being a shy eater. There have only been two feedings in which he actually struck at the rat, every other feeding, I have to leave the rat in the tub, shut it, turn the lights out and walk away. It seems weird to imagine that he just goes up to the rat after who knows how long and opens his mouth and starts eating it. Maybe one of these times I'll have to try to sneak in to witness the secret act of him having dinner.
