Desi and Lucy

I have 2 juveniles that have been together since before I got them. They are getting to be around 1 1/2 feet long but are perfectly fine with each other. In fact if I remove Desi Lucy gets a little antsy in the tank alone. I am a new owner and want to make sure I care for my babies properly. So when should I separate them?

first off, are you sure of the genders?

imo, if their males, i would seperate asap, but if their females, you might be able to wait a little longer

I wouldnt house 2 together at all (exception being breeding season) they will be constantly competing for best hot spot, hide ect....

Agreed. Separating them is the best way to care for them. You may think that one gets Ansy when you remove the other but they are a hell of alot happier alone. Except under breeding conditions.

Lucy may seem "antsy" to you simply because removing Desi disturbed her - not Desi's removal that disturbed her, I mean simply the motion of taking the other snake out. She may act the same way if you lifted her hide box off her or moved her branch or some other way poked around in there.

You should seperate them now. Snakes do not need the companionship of other snakes to be happy. They are solitary creatures in the wild except during mating. If Lucy was "disturbed" she'll get over it quickly. Snakes kept in the same enclosure compete for the same hot spot and hides and cause each other unnecessary stress. They'll be heathier apart.
