Where to put thermostat on heat lamp

I just got another thermostat for my CHE because it's getting colder here. My question is where do you advise putting the "thermometer" part of the thermostat?

Where to put the probe when using a heat lamp?
Hmm well I guess I would put it where you think the snake will be under the lamp (on the floor, on a branch, etc.)
I guess Ive never thought of using it for a lamp.
A lamp is going to be turned on and provide heat and light, im not sure it will be regulated well with a thermostat as flexwatt would.
Maybe a dimmer would work better for a lamp? I could be wrong though, I dont use lamps and maybe someone else can give you more of a straight answer.

i have the probe from thermostat for my heat lamp laying on top of my aspen bedding..the lamp is directed towards the probe.
