    Tank temps

I have a small uth on one side of a twenty gallon long tank. We use an acurite dual probe and it is taped with foil tape to the inside of the tank right in the middle of the uth.
Then I have aspen bedding. This is under a resin hide. The temp says 113.4 but when I pick up Pretty Girl she feels cold. I do have the uth on a thermostat thing by zoo med and it is on low.
On the other side of the tank is a bigger heater but the lowest temp I can get that two is 129 on another theromstat thing by zoo med. It is also measured by an acurite dual probe.
She seems more active when I turned off the larger heater but she felt warmer with it. She has ate once but has not had a bm.
Any advice? She is roughly about two years old and was given to me as a rescue. The lady who had her found her in a shed and couldn't keep her any longer.
She is in the process of a shed. She shed 50 % and I am soaking her now following the soaking tutorial sticky.
She is such a sweet snake I just want to do the best for her.

    Thanks!

Uh, anything over 105 degrees Fahrenheit can cause neurological damage. Anything over 95 can cause burns as well... I recommend dropping one of the heaters, you're going to cook the poor thing to death. Get a thermostat with a lower temperature range if it still won't go any lower.

The cool end should be 78-82, ambient should be about 85, and the hotspot should be around 90. Your temps are WAAAY too high.

if your talking about those repti-therm thing, theyre quite useless for a tstat, and its also a good idea to just set the probe on top of the bedding (i bury mine about 1/2'' down). im not sure what the preffered tstat is, but im sure someone else can enlighten you

I don't have both uth heaters on. Just the one with the lowest temp I can get. I turned the higher one off after I couldn't get the temp down.
The controller I have is a zoo med repti temp control dial with low, medium and high. There is no other heat in the tank. Ambient temp in the room is 75 to 72.

If the part that measures the temperature is taped to the bottom of the tank, you're measuring the temperature at the bottom of the tank, not on the bedding where your snake sits. I noticed this with my tank too, then i moved the thermostat onto the top of the bedding and the temperature dropped. Other than that i agree, the temperatures are way too high. Make sure you have a cool and a warm side. 75-85 and 85-90 respectively.

So you just lay the probe down in the aspen bedding. Ok I will do that. Can anyone recommend a good temp control thing? Specific names will be most helpful. From what I was reading, a light dimmer switch will work?
thanks for the replies. I am off to go fix the probe.

I wouldn't put it too far down as the aspen reduces the surface temp that your snake will be laying on - putting it on the glass below the aspen isn't the best idea as it will be cooler above.

Yeah, rheostats/lamp dimmers work fine. They're not accurate, though, and some have wildly different settings. I only use a lamp dimmer on an actually heat lamp, I haven't tried it with my heat mat. Any cheapo from somewhere like Ace Hardware will work fine if you want to risk the investment.
