The tank size shouldn't be a problem imo. I have started babies/juvies out in their 20 longs with no issue.
Maybe he just feels insecure with the 'stuff' out. Try leaving it in and offering 1 cricket at a time. I used to hold the cricket's back leg and put it in front of them 'til they got a little braver. Too many crickets running around in a bare tank may be overwhelming.

I tried keeping everything in but he ignores it. I also tried with the long tongs I have and he just looks at me like "woman please" (was going to use another word but I want to keep it pg lol)
Maybe he is just picky and wants to stick with his worms. I guess I can't complain.. He is healthy.

He's adorable.
I honestly can't comment on the housing because I use tubs, but you might want to try a different bug for a while. I've heard that leos do fairly well with a little variety in their diets. That being said, I just feed mine meal worms. I can stick them in a shallow dish and leave them in there for them to eat at their leisure. I don't have to take anything out and I don't have to worry about them bothering the leos.

There are always mealies in his tank. At his size I don't really know what else he can eat lol

My bug lady also keeps and breeds leos and she suggested I try roaches (I don't remember what kind though). I turned her down though because I still have trouble dealing with the meal worms.

I am pretty sure he is still too small for roaches right now.

There are lots of different sized roaches, but if he will eat meal worms I wouldn't worry too much about seeing him eat other bugs.
