Ball python abandoned near highway in Washington
The article questions whether the snake "fell out of a moving vehicle". I doubt it, as the glass aquarium would have been smashed.
And "corral" the snake? It's a ball python. The guy is HOLDING him. You don't corral them, you pick them up--with gloves, like the officer did--and set him in the tank. They're making it sound like he kept poking him with a cattle prod to get him to go in the tank.
I think someone bought a baby ball python, and then peed their pants when it got to adult size and decided to abandon it by a busy highway. That's why the tank was there with the snake; it's the same scheme the people who leave puppies by the side of the road use. They know (or rather hope) that people will find the animals and take pity on them, and rescue them.
I guess it's just lucky for this snake that he was found in time, as it's cold here in Washington and he would've froze had he gotten far, and that the person who found him didn't freak out at the sight of the snake and chop his head off with a shovel.

Some people, I swear.
It's actually a beautiful snake! I hope somebody gives him a good home, and also glad the officer responded appropriately. He looks silly in that picture, though - like a kid holding a snake at the zoo, all "Look mom! I'm not scared!"

He does look quite silly. We don't have very many snakes in Washington, so I'm sure that was a first for him!
And yes, I was amazed--that snake is a beauty. I'm hoping he might need a new home

Beautiful snake in deed but this proves that too many people rush into a purchase without doing the appropriate research. I certainly hope that this gorgeous animal finds a good home.

Wow what is wrong with people... There are so many places that you can drop the snake off that will take care of it and find the snake a good home.

I'm not surprised by that happening in Vancouver WA, they do not want ball pythons or any other large snake in the city, told to me by the animal control officer in the last 2 weeks.
Owning a ball python means $100 a year permit per snake unless you own a business license.
No breeding is allowed legally anywhere in the city limits even with a business license.
I believe there is thousands of ball pythons being illegally owned in Vancouver and hundreds of small time breeders doing so without this knowledge or they just ignore the law.

None of what I wrote excuses the actions of the individual dumping their snake, totally not kewl.

I had to "corral" a 7 foot boa at work. Animal control was scared of it and just left. Was a pet and tame as could be but everyone scattered when I walked out holding it. I tried to keep it but turned it over to neighbor to take care of until owner could take it.

Thats sad that an ACO was scared to touch the Snake. I got pulled over earlier this year taking one of mine to the vet, and I got arrested for a warrent I shouldn't of had (all taken care of now) The arresting officer was scared to touch my car when I told him there was a snake in the car. But AC for that city picked it up and gave it back to me. This was in a city that keeping any exotics is illeagel. Yes snakes and lizards are illegal to own in League City, TX. But AC took it and I was able to get it back for no charge. She was housed properly. I did donate $20 since they didn't charge me.
