    Have you considered a Black Milksnake? Will not exceed your 8' mark (but may get 6-7'), very docile, awesome eaters, very hardy, do not require supplemental heat, tons on personality, awsome color shift from tri-colored to solid black.
    30 years of dabling have me leaning towards this animal as my next choice.
