Snakes and vacation?
Alright, after doing much exploration of this site, it's clear that many of you own
a LOT of snakes (which is awesome!) however it got me thinking. If and when you decide to go on a trip or vacation or whatever you want to call it, what do you do with your snakes care wise? Who takes care of them or do you just make sure they're heaters are put on a power strip timer so its all checked out automatically and you feed them before you go?

Re: Snakes and vacation?
If vacation is a week I don't think there would be any problem leaving them. I use a rack system and a thermostat.

It depends on how long your going to be gone for. If your only going for a couple of days then it shouldn't be a problem, if your going for longer you probably want someone to check in on them for you while you were gone. I actually took my 1st vacation in in the last few years this summer as I went down south to visit some friends and go to Daytona for the expo. I was able to go thanks to a couple of family members and a close friend who I trust enough that they took care of all my animals while I was gone. I feed everyone before I left but they checked in daily and took care of what needed to be done while I was away...

thats a good question, i would say as long as the vacation wasnt much longer than a week to ten days there shouldnt be n e issues but u might still want someone to just stop and check on them at least...

Re: Snakes and vacation?
I hold the food back a bit before a planned trip(longer than a day or three); usually I offer the last meal two weeks before I plan to go. I also put an extra couple layers of paper towels in each bin. I give fresh water before leaving but leave the bowl only about 1/2 full to prevent spills due to baths or whatever they do to get the water out. I do not go on vacation in very cold or very hot weather so if the power goes out my snakes do not freeze/roast. No one is there for me to check on animals. My tortoises are much more difficult than my snakes. They require me to grow live lettuce (collard) plants in their enclosure so they will have fresh food available.

I'm lucky enough that my mom has no problem with coming and caring for my snakes. She checks temps and cleans the cages. However, I may need to find a new "snakesitter" since I bought a T
