Deep grow out tubs

I got some large grow out tubs about 12inches high with mesh lids and need ideas for letting the rats get to their food. I have seen the boxes and cylinders ppl make into the mesh lids but looking for other ideas for such deep tubs.

I am thinking of making a growout tub like this and was planning on bending some harware cloth and wire twist some sides on it.

You can build a wire food hopper and hang it from the mesh lid.

I used to do the food hoppers, but they end up wasting the food. So when i use grow out tubs, i give a hand full of food per day that lasts them till next morning.

I agree. I noticed the same. Thats the reason why I got used to dumping the food in a corner. Hoppers waste alot over my experience ... depending on how much you dump to them that can last 2-3 days no problem.

That's the cylindrical or box shaped wire hoppers. Yeah they aren't the best. I have put some house bricks at one end for now that allows them to reach the wire at the top where I put some food. How much do they play with the food and scatter it everywhere and waste it when you put it in the cage like that?

I use a suet cage feeder with 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch spacing. Works great but costs more than the DIY hardware cloth feeder. I form a hook out of hanger wire and hang the feeder at the front of the tub. It sits at ground level so all can reach it. I use less food with them than just dumping it in the tubs. YMMV.
