I think he is a she >_>
I've tried popping my new fire a couple of times now and every time it pops female for me. It was sold to me as a male, but I really won't be heartbroken if he is actually a she. I am fairly confident in my ability to pop babies so I'm pretty sure I'm doing it right, but I am going to have a local breeder I know sex it for me to double check.
Should I contact the breeder and let them know? Female fires cost more than males and I only paid $150 for it so I feel like I should let the breeder know they made a mistake. I really don't want to pay more, but I'm not sure what I should do. Ethically I feel like I should offer them more money if it is in fact a female.
Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

It's the breeder's responsibility to sex the snake correctly.
As a breeder, if I sold somebody a female that I thought was a male, I wouldn't expect them to pay me the difference if I made a mistake. However, if they wanted to trade the snake for a male, I'd be willing to do that as well.
That's my two cents, you must do what feels right for you.

Im not a breeder yet, but in that scenario, I would do just that. I would Offer to trade the snake in for a male, or offer to let you keep the female if you are happy with her. I wouldnt ask for the difference simply because the person would feel like they got a great deal, and people satisfied with their experiences will generally come to you again, or drop your name to any friends they have that might be interested in a snake.

How big is the snake? Some males can really hold it in if you will. Last show I went to, I purchased a female cinny and was chased down by the breeder because she was a he. The associate popped him and he looked female but the breeder knew he was a stubborn one. If he was sold as a he, he is probably a he. Probing would be another option if you are unsure. You will know for sure once (s)he is proven.

It's only 188g but it's super skinny. I was assured several times that it was eating very well and that it was eating rats, but it looks like it should weigh at least 300g.
I don't get any resistance when I try to pop, I can actually feel that it is fully inverted and I see the scent glands that females have. I am going to have a local breeder double check for me though. I'm not comfortable probing and I have no experience at it, but the person I am going to take it to knows how to prob.

I currently don't have any experience with probing and I don't feel comfortable attempting it without someone to teach me. I know someone who can probably teach me to probe or at least probe it for me.

this is how we learned... just as most things these days youll learn from youtube go figure,,,,,, but after you decide on the most proper way of the initial insertion,,, simply insert the right sized probe until it wont go anymore,, remember, this probe should be lubed up,,,so as one could imagine,,, it will slide freely . so when it stops, thats it...theres no need to force it any further.. to me,, that just seems the more safer of the two (unless you just want to "squeeze like toothpaste" or take chances on prolapse, or worse.). that being said,,, there are some pros that take pride in poping with one hand.. whatever you feel most comfortable with.
just my thoughts

I understand the concept of probing, but I know how to pop the young ones so I'm more comfortable doing that. I just feel like there is a lot more that can go wrong with probing over popping so I don't want to do the teach myself with youtube videos thing.
