Eating rat sideways...

Jackson has determined that he will take this meal feet first. He started in the middle, and he has been working on it for about 15 minutes. Is there ever a time when one should intervene? It is really sad watching him try to swallow this thing sideways...
I am NOT going to take it from him now, he is making good progress... I was just wondering for future reference.

Never really want to help them eat after their prey is dead. He will figure it out and if he is able to eat it backwards then the prey is probably to small.

Glad to see Jackson is eating regularly for you As far as it sideways he will figure it out my pied girl played with one for around 30 min one time before she got it right. He is still learning how to take his prey so give it time. Soon you will blink and miss the whole thing and wonder where the rat went

He didn't eat it backwards, it was sideways. Like he folded it in half to eat it. And it was a little smaller than what I usually give him, so maybe that's why he ate it like that... He looked terribly uncomfortable. But he got it down!

Edgar-the-spastic-bumblebee seems to have some trouble with this too. Even if I hold it in the tongs so the head is facing him, he always manages to hit the butt or belly. XD It takes him quite a while to reposition. The breeders were giving him live, I don't know how he managed to handle that without getting hurt. He took to f/t just fine, so no more worries there at least!
