Question so when it comes to dwarf retics...

ive heard of dwarf, and super dwarf retics, and i was wondering how big the average size is for each, cause i really want a retic, just not a full blown one, or like a 6 foot one. i'd rather it max out at like10-13ft, is that a realistic goal for a retic, or is it too indeterminable (spelling? actually, is it even a word lol?) to even say?

I'll tell you what I know. I'm sure there are others more knowledgable than me who will chime in, but I asked the same questions myself as I was interested.

Super Dwarf retics are from a super small locality of retic, getting around 6 foot. A dwarf retic usually means it is a super dwarf/regular retic mix.

Note--there aren't any morphs from the super dwarfs, so if you see 'het albino SUPER dwarf", it's not really a super dwarf, just a 'dwarf' since it's a mix of the two.

The issue with dwarves is they have a lot of wiggle room size-wise. Some can be very small, some end up very large. I've heard if you get a line of dwarves with parents and grandparents that are all similar sizes you can get a decent idea of how big they will get, but it's still no guarentee. Plus, it seems most people just have a straight up mix from a super dwarf to a normal, or dwarf to a normal, so you get some pretty random genetics going on.

Generally they SHOULD even out around the middle, but they can still get pretty big. I've seen a dwarf that was over 12 foot, and a sibling/clutchmate to that adult that was still around 6 foot at the same age.

I think it's best to expect them to be large, and prepare for that, but be pleasantly surprised if they end up at a reasonable length! Better than expecting them to be small, and having to scrounge together a big cage on the spot!

ok, so basically find a line that has been around the size i want for a few generations already? i figured theres alot of "play" in the sizes, and i know if i ever get any retic, im gonna plan on it being a monster no matter what the breeder says or shows me, but thankyou, thats gonna help me be able to estimate better for sure

That's what I was told at least, but it was more of a guess, like a possible thing. It would still vary a lot, most likely. Maybe someone will come by with more info than me! Good luck with your planning!

There are actual dwarf retics that are not mixed. There are locale retics in different sizes.

If you want a dwarf, go for a pure blood locale. Like Jampae dwarf. Those are the medium sized ones you want.

The true super dwarf locale stay very small. About 6 ft.

The super dwarf x mainland creates a dwarf sized mix that can be anywhere from 10 to 15 ft depending on generation.

Look into breeders who have been dealing with them for a long time like The Retic Ranch.

fer a 10-13 footer I would look into a Jamp.... I have seen several adult female jamps that are 10-13 foot good body size. I hope that you have some tic experience, a 12 foot retic is nothing like a 12 foot burm

My Super Dwarfs were bred off of a 4+' male and 5+' females. Tiny little things I don't know a lot of about Dwarfs but have heard they can reach up to 15' and sometimes males as small as 7-8'.

    Regards,

    B
