New Mice! Great day!
I started the day at a "going out of business sale" at a reptile shop. I have no herps right now but plan on getting some and building racks. I found some flexwatt heat tape and scored it for $40.00 for about 250 ft+. (someone was practically crying when they missed out).
Then I responded to an ad for babies out of a dwarf rat, and drove an hour to pick up 9 babies. When i got there, the mom was not a dwarf, rather, a normal sized female rat (the store told him dwarf and compared her to the huge male they sold him too). Either way, They were all pretty ratties, all or most were dumbos, and they were mostly masked with very little markings. They were also silvers and very few blacks.
That was cool, they were very pretty. So then he mentions that he's also got mice and he shows me a few and he has mice that are almost all white with black eyes and that are also satins! They were beautiful!!! He mentions he has a bunch of long haired and more satins and cool colors but didn't want to bring all the tanks out. I was going to buy a bunch but Paypal wasn't cooperating on my phone.
So I left and went to the place he said he bought a lot of his stock, a local countrymax. I picked up the following mice BUT i'm kicking myself right now because there was a tailless mouse in with the group. I didn't think anything of it and thought maybe it was just bitten off, but after looking at photos of other tailless mice, it looks as if this could be a legitimate genetic tailless. So now I'm like OMG, I gotta get back there. So I'm going to paypal the guy money for his mice and then stop off at countrymax and pick up my little tailless friend tomorrow first thing in the AM (Fingers crossed it's still there!!!)
Anyway, here is what I have going on right now. I'm currently waiting for the rest of the supplies for my watering system to come in, I'm doing a pressure system with edstrom valves. I have someone building me racks, 8 high for $60.00 per rack (I have to do watering system and buy tubs), and someone building me mouse rack without watering system (I have tubs already) for 160 for a 55 slot rack. I have one 8 tub unit setup and one 7 tub unit setup.
Here's what I have going on right now and I'll post up more photos tomorrow of the ones I pick up

I plan to try and get some BEW's out of these guys. These are the boys

Silver masked females 3.1 for now

Cool calico and white type mouse and long haired black male

Long haired black male

One group

Another group I got last week, female about ready to pop and younger long haired male with 2 long haired females

Hard to tell but I think she's a broken tan (tan belly black top with a spot of white in the middle of her belly)

Satin

Another group with the satin. The satin is the buck for that cage and the black ones are broken tans

Another group

Racks so far

Nice find. Cute rats and the mice are very cool. cute little tan doe and looks like your satin buck is also brindle?

The 'calico and white' mouse looks like a piebald brindle.
The mouse at the pet store with the missing tail almost certainly lost it in an injury. Manx in the US is dominant, and if there was one, there should be many in there with missing, or partial tails. Manx in mice can create anything from a half tail, to no tail at all.
The chances that the mouse you saw is legitimately manx is basically non-existant. There are only 3 people I know of in the US with manx, and they do not sell them.
It probably had it's tail injured, or bitten, or was just plain deformed. But I'm sure he's still neat.
You're right about the doe with the light belly, she is a poebald black tan. Your satin is either brindle, or recessive yellow.

Yeah, the satin has what I think brindle markings.
Hey Rhasputin, do you think my blacks are satin or just shiny mice? I don't notice the sheen on their bellies like I can with the satin. Also, how common are BEW mice and BEW satins/long haired bew satins?
Both of the blacks have that type of belly, just the other one has less of the tan on her belly. Is that simple recessive?
The mice at the pet store were from a breeder who couldn't keep his mice anymore, so I guess it's possible that it's a tailless? Either way, I'll hopefully find out soon. He/she is too young to breed right now yet.
Are the blacks piebald too?
Tomorrow I'm picking up some more mice. I'm hoping to get some of his BEW satin long haired mice. He has some neat mice.
I want to find some Texel, hairless, fuzzy, angora, siamese, etc. I think I might know someone who has them, but he is a real jerk and I would need to find someone to ship for me

Are the blacks piebald too? Most mice that are one color and white are piebald, from big patches to just white tail tips.

To find if your mice are satin, pick them up by the scruff of their neck, and inspect their teeth. A satin mouse will have shiny white teeth, whereas a normal coated mouse will have orange or yellow teeth.
Where do you live out of curiosity?

THe one you are confused by looks like a splashed blue point himilayan.
More detailed photos would help with identity.
You've got some tri colours and splashed and possibly variegated mice in there. . . I wonder where all of these came from? Strange that splashed and tris would be in a feeder bin.
The tail-free mouse is prolly either deformed, or was injured, like I previously suggested.
If it was genetic, you would almost positively see more in the bin / line.

Re: New Mice! Great day!
Nice! Is the gray and black a merle?
They were in the "fancy Mice" cage at the store.
Ill take bette photos of the other one in a little bit or tomorrow.
As far as the "tailless", I'm guessing deformity but I never know. He was dropped off by a breeder bc they had too many mice *shrug* if he proves out, I will happy dance
Who should I pair the possible splashed blue point himilayan with to help bring out the points in the babies? He's the only one of his kind I could find and is a buck
