is particle board ok to make a rack out of?
i have some particle board laying around and i was wondering if particle board is safe for my bp to come in contact with? the only thing the particle board says on it is formaldehyde-free underlayment particle board it doesnt say what kind of wood is pressed together to make it, could i spray a coat of polyurethane over it if its not safe to make it so that the snakes cant come in contact with the wood i was thinking of doing that even if the wood is safe here is a pic of the wood

Nope, its weak and will warp in few months. Even if sealed its not best for racks.
Not to Mention particle board with no laminate on it splits, swells very easy

i think im gonna try to make one out of it if it doesn't work then oh well the wood is just laying there but im going to use this stain blocker mold resistant primer to cover the wood

then im going to use polyurethane to seal that but i cant find out if either of the things are toxic or will cause health issues when its dry, do any of you know if what i want to do is safe?

Killz latex will not hold up to humidity. Its a latex therefore is not designed for protection against moisture. Killz is designed to coat as a primer blocker not a moisture barrier. I work with it alot and trust me thays not what you want. When we work with killz we have to wear full face respirators because of how bad it is. Do you really want your animals having to deal with that? Particle board is horrible for racks. If your gonna. Build a rack, spring the 38 bucks a sheet for melamine. You are not going to be happy trying to save a buck with particle board.
