My ball python not using hide

He's not using his warm hide. He's near his cool hide but he's not using that either. He's in between the hide and the wall. Why is that?

I have always read that they will go where they want, that is why we provide them with a hide on each end. This way they don't have to choose between hot or cold if the hide is only on one side.

I have also heard that even if we provide them with two hides, they might go to the hot side (or cold) first. They will feel secure in that hide and not want to leave that particular hide, so the hide should be put in the middle.

I have always believed that they will choose between hot and cold, but I'm not too sure about the second perspective. Hopefully somebody will say that it is not true.

Re: My ball python not using hide

my ball python always used to do this, he would sit between the water dish and the wall under no hide, im not sure why though, try adjusting your temperatures somewhat and see hoe he acts then. i raised the temp in mine and now he always uses one hide or the other (unless hes on his branch)

he either doesnt feel secure in that hide or the temp isnt right. he may like the cool side and choose the hot side after he eats. i only give mine one hide on the hot side and if they want to cool off they will lay on the cool said and just hang out. but most of the time they are on the hot side, which is where i want them so they stay warm. as long as all ur temps are right then dont worry, he will go where he wants.
A room full of empty racks and thermostats that have been unplugged.
