How does the scanner interface with the application? can you use any usb barcode scanner? Do you have a recommended scanner? Does it work with android/iOS scanners?

We have used 3 different USB scanners, but any scanner your PC has should work, and it can handle barcode or the image code as well. I can get you the types of scanners we used later when I get home if you want.
