    Is this bad?

Is it strange that it's been a week and I still have yet to see it come out of its cave?

A couple nights ago I saw its head poke out for a couple seconds and then it just went right back in. The temps are perfect, with the warm side being 90-95 and the cool side 80-85, I have two identical caves, a medium sized water dish. humidity fluctuates between 35%-60% depending on spraying.

The only thing I could think of is that I have an inferred light to keep up the ambient temp in the tank overall, is this light perhaps scaring it to stay in its cave because of the warmth it throws off, My room is gernerall 72-74 so without the light thats what the ambient temperture would be. The UTH keeps the warm side surface at the right tempurture.

Am I just being paranoid? I just want to make sure the poor thing is coming out for water!(granted, I have never seen it out of the cave and I am usually up pretty late)

BPs hide. It's what they do. Especially if there is light. They are not a very good display snake because of this. They are shy. A hiding BP is a happy BP.

I'm pretty sure he's fine. You'd be surprised how they can pick up movement.

HOLY CRAP! I just went to check to change its water and it's in the cool side cave now! It's a miracle! It moved! I can't even explain how happy I am!

Sometimes they don't come out for a week or two. Usually it's because they're in shed, but new animals do it too. If he keeps it up for over a month AND doesn't eat, it might be worth going to the vet for a fecal smear to check for parasites.

Usually, though, they're just nocturnal. Or "crepuscular?" They come out after you turn the lights out and bop around for a couple hours, "hunting" or just exploring. So next time you turn the lights out, wait a half hour, and then sneak back in with a flashlight. Unless he's in shed, there's a good chance he'll be out.
