    Question Strange Poo...

    Hey Ladies and Gentlemen!

Here I come with even more questions . But this one is by far the one that worries me the most.

Last night around 3am, Volvagia took what I think is weird dump... First off, it was by far the stinkiest poop she has made with me. Secondly, it had a yellow/green-ish (think of baby poop) segment, like half a hand pinky nail, and was really ugly (well, more than regular poo). But the thing that scared me the most was a white-ish blob near the end of the poop. When I saw it, my first thought was Parasites, but I armed myself with courage and poked the white stuff with a needle that I had laying around (I was going to use it for the soldering flux), but the 'blob' didn't have anything inside (My experience is with dogs and cats, and you can really tell when they have parasites by looking at their poop, but there was nothing moving there). So I even moved it around and the texture (didn't touch it of course) and appearance was that of a very dense yet humid booger (sorry for the mental-image ).

MODS: If it is ok with you, could I upload a pic of the poo? I wanted to, but wasn't going to do it without your approval first
If not, I can PM the poop to anyone interested and wiiling to help...

Also, she has pooped 3 times for me already and she has eaten 5 times in her whole life. Is this good, bad or normal?

    thanks

    Re: Strange Poo...

LOL....we've seen all sorts of poo pics around here. Go for it. It will certainly be helpful in determining the nature of the poo.

Sometimes a dump will look different when its fresh than when it's been sitting for a while. They come out all wet and nasty...but then dry up some into the more customary turds and urates we're used to seeing.

As for the frequency of the poo...that sounds normal. They don't poo very often, especially when they are young and growing.

I hate to highjack the thread Munizfire, but I need to throw a quick question out there: is it normal for a baby (a few months old) to poo very frequently (as in, 1-3 days after eating a meal on a 5 day feeding schedule - he's on hoppers)? Reason I ask is the boyfriend's new baby has been pooping so frequently I'm wondering if he's okay. The poops look normal as well.

To Munizfire though: I'm sure you're baby is fine. Poops come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and smells

    Re: Strange Poo...

They're very much individuals. I think the temps they're kept at...the size and frequency of the meals....and their own individual metabolisms and activity levels will all play a part in how frequently they poo. So long as the snake is eating well...the poos look normal...and the snake is growing....you're golden.

    Re: Strange Poo...

That looks pretty normal to me....urates mixed with some fecal matter and maybe a little mucous. If you were to have found it a few hours later instead of immediately after it dropped, then the mucous would have dried up and not been noticeable, and the colors would have faded, etc. They're just grosser when they're fresher!

they do have technicolor poo sometimes. It looks reasonably normal to me too. little ones I find seem to have a bit more mucusy stuff than older snakes but that is my experience it is hard to be certain. It is extremes you need to be concerned with all mucus with no solids... the white yellow green bits are uranates similar to bird poo it is solid urine that the snake has reclaimed a lot of water from. Poorly hydrated animals will leave very very little water behind but captive animals usually will have a fair bit of moisture as well as the solid white stuff. It is a sign of a snake that is well hydrated.
