    Quarentine?

    Hey Ya'll,

My question about quarentine is this, If you have known the snake and the owner you got it from for the past year, your know the care the snake received and how clean the previous owner keeps his animals, is there a need to quarentine that animal when you get it? A friend of mine sold me his male spider and I want to start pairing him with my 2 females, I'm concerned that with a 90 day quarentine I might miss my window for this breeding season. Please help. Thanks

Regardless of who you got your snake from it's better to be safe then sorry later on. Even if you wait 90 days you shouldn't miss out on your breeding season. I pair up in Oct and my last clutch of eggs this year was Sept. I'll have my last clutch getting ready to pip by the time I start breeding all over again.

I agree with this! You never know. I bought my latest additions off of a breeder that I trust and I know doesn't have any issues. I checked them over and they looked great, no weird behavior or signs of mites but mine started to show signs of mites after a month and a half. Now I'm treating all my snakes for mites and it seriously sucks! Your best bet is to quarantine always, for every snake regardless of the situation. Mites suck but there are worst things out there.

    Cheers.

Month andh alf after getting a new addition and starting to see mites, is not due to the new arrival. They hitched on you into your collection. Mites only have a life cycle of 10-19days. Lay their eggs and then they hatch in 2-3 weeks and redo the cycle.

    Your mites came elsewhere

It does not matter who the snake come from, are well you know the person and or their animals, every snakes should be quarantined.

The rush of breeding is not worth jeopardizing your collection....PERIOD no matter who the snake comes from.
