    Pastels?

So I've had two people tell me recently that when searching for a high quality pastel you want to find one with lots of orange because it will hold it's color better. This is completely contradictory to what I've heard in the past. It's been my understand that a high quality pastel hatchling is very yellow with lots of blushing because orange tends to turn brown. Which is true?

I've been under the impression for quite some time that a good pastel will have bright yellow, not orange coloring. So far my favorite type of pastel is the citrus pastel.

Orange does turn brown. The LEAST amount of orange is what you want to see.

Now, when shopping albino's - you want the most orange you can get. They'll be the higher contrast ones as adults.

You want to look for a pastel with as little orange as possible.

The more orange = the more brown of an adult you will get.

Thanks everyone! I was really confused because one of the people who told me that was a BP breeder. I was at his table at the Wisconsin Reptile Expo yesterday and I was looking at his male pastels. I did buy one, but it was the more yellow one with some really nice blushing on his head, but the breeder tried to tell me that the other one who had a lot more orange was going to hold it's color better.

Well there are 2 options in this case

    1# He is mistaken
2# He knows he will have a hard time selling the other one which is why he tried to get rid of him first.

Lol, that might be the case, but the other one still looked better than most of the male pastel at show (it's an extremely small show) and he was charging a lot less than any of the other breeders. I'm just glad I trusted my knowledge and bought the one that I did.

He's not an A+ pastel, but I still think he looks pretty good.

Never heard that.. Look for nice blushing, and bright colour .. but never orange.. that sounds... very.. backwards..

I kinda have to agree with the thought that it may have just been someone trying to sell their orangy babies.. heck.. we did have someone bragging about their brown pastels being good.. etc etc..

Very pretty pastel you have there. I love how faded his head is.
