Zilla Temp Controller
Just bought another one last weekend at the NARBC show. I was checking temps and noticed the "on" light would constantly stay on regardless of where I put the temp on the controller. I felt the UTH and it was very hot, definitely not the 90 degrees it was set at. After some fiddling, it started making a very strange noise, almost like the noise from when you turn on hair clippers. Anyone ever experience this before? I'm thinking it's a dud

Re: Zilla Temp Controller
I used to use one of these before I knew any better about other thermostats. These Zilla Temp Contollers are pure junk. Get yourself a Hydorfarm thermostat, very cheap and gets the job done. You could also go with a Herpstat, Helix, Ranco, or Johnson's Control, these are a little on the pricey side but they get the job done.

I just looked these up on amazon.com and they got some good reviews. I am in need of a thermostat and I think this is the one to get. thx for the suggestion
I have a reostat and on low I am getting 98-99 degrees (sometimes it gets over 100) under the substrate. I know its only 90-94 in the hide but I still want peace of mind that it wont get to hot.

Zilla thermostat and other cheap thermostat that are alike are prone to fluctuation and failure, the problem is when they fail rather than cutting the heat off they simply no longer regulate it. (been there done that back)
Given how many years your animal will live if you want a piece of mind what you should get is a reliable digital thermostat that will not allow fluctuation and that will not be prone to failure, well worth the little extra money.
You can go with Ranco, Johnson on the low end and Herpstat and Helix on the high end.
