Low temp.

well here is my situation, because of my family's dependance on A/C and the coming cold weather i am not able to maintain an air temp in my BP's tank any higher than about 77º and it drops below 75º on occasion. the UTH keeps the temp in the hot hide in the mid-high 80sº to low 90sº. i have a heat lamp for when the air temp drops below 75º but it butchers my humidity so i cant keep it on.

i know this situation is not ideal, but is it still ok?

yea thats still fine. just mist down the cages once a day. and even still since they sit in the hide a VAST majority of the time and the temp there is spot on nothing to worry about. I have the same thing going on and i dont have issues. Now i also havent started breeding yet so when that time comes it maybe; however for day to day life of a BP thats fine.

but i would suggest finding a room where you can place them where there isnt as much AC going on if you have that option.

Is there any way that you can put the snake tank in a separate room where you could eliminate the air conditioning and possibly set up an oil filled heater to keep the ambient temps at least 77 degrees in the room.

I believe ideal temps would be for the actual room temp to be at least 77 degrees. The tank temps should be 81 cool side - 91 hot side.

I would be concerned that your snake could get an RI from the temps that you are keeping.

Maybe someone else will chime in here with more information.

it usually stays around 77º and unfortunately this is the warmest room i can keep him in. I've already blocked the A/C vent and keep the door closed as often as possible, but it doesn't get any warmer than it is now.

It sounds like you are doing all you can. Just keep a constant eye on the setup and you should be fine.

I am fortunate enough to have an entire room dedicated to my snakes - thank god because my husband runs the air conditioning also - I keep the air vent closed in this room and it stays about 80 degrees all summer long. Now in the winter - I have to supplement with an oil filled heater to keep the room warm enough because my husband doesn't want the rest of the house at 80 degrees - lol

Ok, thanks for the input, i may end up getting a space heater if the temperatures get any lower.

The best kind I found was the electric oil filled heaters. They are clean and safe - and put off great heat.

The model I got is programmable - I set it to the desire temp and it shuts off once the room gets to that temp. I got mine at walmart for $70 - it is black with digital readouts - I'm sure you will see it if you look at walmart. Can't remember the brand right now but it comes in a red box. The oil is permanently stored in the unit so no maintenance or mess.

I live in an old drafty place and often have room temps below 65º I ended up needing a cool side heater and t-stat as well. But a good first step in to add insulation to bottom sides and top and see if that helps hold the heat you are producing in the enclosure. Just for a temp test you might try a blanket folded a few times to see if that helps with the ambient temps some.

Is that room used much.. I ran into the same issue bc i like my house at 69. I covered the vents in an unused room and bought a 60 dollar oil filled radiator. To heat the room. If u have a multi output themostat such as a herpsat 2 u can then turn the radiator up full bore and use ur thermostat in on off mode to control ur room temp.
