Anyone Seen the New Thundercats?
WARNING! There be spoilers below!
It just started airing in July on CN. And I must say it has exceeded my expectations.
There's so much that similar but so much different, and for the most part, way better!
In the orginal, Thundera was a planet that was destroyed and the Thundercats escaped to 3rd Earth. Their native enemies were the Mutants, a mix of animal based humanoids. The new enemy was Mum-ra.
In this new show, Thundera is a kingdom of 3rd Earth that gets destroyed by an alliance of lizard like people, the traitor Grune, and Mum-ra. Although, it is revealed just recently that the Thundercats, the lizards, some other animal races, and Mum-ra are all from some other world and used to work together.
Other differences...
The new Snarf doesn't talk. This is really the only thing I don't like. Snarf was the comic relief of the original show like Cringer in He-man. That said, it's minor.
Lion-O and Tigra are brothers now. There were never any familiar relations in the old show.
Lion-O is a teen. In the old show he was a child that developed an adult body while in a stasis chamber.
The Cats are always on the run from Mum-ra and the lizards as opposed to establishing a large base and beating Mum-ra and the mutants back to their hide outs every week.
There's yet to be a new version of Jackal Man, Monkeyan, or Vulture Man. Although, the last episode establishes that those races exist. But only the lizards have been shown as agressors towards the Cats.
Grune in the new show is Pantho's best friend. In the original he was Jaga's best friend before becoming betraying.
The original show had jaga being the wielder of the Sword of Omens before Lion-O. The new show establishes a royal lineage in which one lion king passed the sword to his son. This leads to some tension between the new Lion-O and Tigra as Tigra is older and feels like he deserves the sword more.
Will Friedle was the perfect choice to voice Lion-O. I became a huge fan of his voice acting when he did Batman Beyond.
I was also pleased to see that the voice of Claudus, Lion-O's father is the original voice of Lion-O.
Overall, I've enjoyed it and look forward to the future of this show.

Re: Anyone Seen the New Thundercats?
I was all excited about it since I watched it when I was little. Caught a couple of the new shows but,.. I'm still up in the air about it.

Animation was excellent in the show as well, that's what I noticed. I am excited to see more, if only for that reason. I only caught the first episode, but I really enjoyed it. It seemed like a fun show. It won't end up being the best animated show in the world, but I don't think they were trying for that. But it sure looks entertaining!

I was just hoping they weren't going to butcher it. There is not a new TF cartoon that even holds a candle to the original 80's TF. The He-man reboot a few years back was good.
I feel very protecting of 80's nostalgia.
Anyways, the new Thundercats not only doesn't butcher the old show but I think it may end up being a lot better. I just hope enough people watch it to keep i going.

Re: Anyone Seen the New Thundercats?
I watched the old Thundercats, but I watched it back when it originally aired so I am not sure how well I actually remember it. I know I caught an episode of Buck Rogers a while back and it made me wonder why I loved it when I was a kid.
You have got me interested when I get home tonight I will set my DVR to record it. Do I need to try to watch the episodes in order or do they stand alone?
