Type of Heater for my Snake Room?
So hubby and I were finally able to leave the windows open last night and it got down into the high 60s in my snake room. Ambient in the tubs was still 77 but I'm thinking about a heater for the cold winter months.
I've read (somewhere?) that your average ceramic space heater is going to suck humidity and cause more of a fire hazard (I plan to hook it up to a thermostat). I've seen in a few people's pics that they have the oil filled heaters. Are these pretty much what everyone uses? I also saw infrared heaters?
Input/opinions welcome. Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing for this upcoming winter. I hope you get some feedback!

I use a oil type hooked to a johnson controls thermostat I had to bypass the oil heater controls and wire the thermostat directly to the coils because the heater had a digital settings panel and it wouldn't turn back on after the thermostat cut the power, if I get a new one I would get one without any digital parts to avoid the extra wiring hassle. I had a really hard time maintaining humidity during winter months. So after alot of wasted money on the small "room" type humidifier I got a while house one for that room, works great

I use an oil heater in my QT room because it's a large room and there is a spot where the heater has plenty of space on all sides. I don't feel comfortable sitting it next to anything (wall, furniture, etc), but I'm probably being overly cautious. My main snake room has just a regular oscillating heater with a built in thermostat (seen in the pic below). I also keep the ceiling fans on 24/7 to help keep the heat evenly distributed.
I think I'm going to plug both heaters into some spare VE-100 thermostats this winter due to reading some horror stories about them overheating. edit: On second thought... these t-stats won't even handle the load of a space heater. Gotta think of something else as a fail safe. Any ideas?

*DROOL* at your snake room by the way!!
Do you find you have a problem with humidity using the regular, ceramic heater?

The safest heaters are Oil filled heaters plug into a reliable thermostat such as ranco (oil filled heater's thermostat should not be trusted)

Not really, but there are 50ish water bowls constantly evaporating in that little room.

Thanks! I didn't realize that the Rancos had such a high capacity.

I've been using a ceramic heater with a thermostat built-in for almost three months and haven't had any issues (knock on wood) and it really works well. It oscillates and heats the entire room evenly. If you're curious I can post a pic with more info later. But I believe most people do use oil filled heaters
A room full of empty racks and thermostats that have been unplugged.
