I use an oil heater in my QT room because it's a large room and there is a spot where the heater has plenty of space on all sides. I don't feel comfortable sitting it next to anything (wall, furniture, etc), but I'm probably being overly cautious. My main snake room has just a regular oscillating heater with a built in thermostat (seen in the pic below). I also keep the ceiling fans on 24/7 to help keep the heat evenly distributed.

I think I'm going to plug both heaters into some spare VE-100 thermostats this winter due to reading some horror stories about them overheating. edit: On second thought... these t-stats won't even handle the load of a space heater. Gotta think of something else as a fail safe. Any ideas?
