My jungle carpet pythons, need urgent answer pls

/Decided to go into the pet shop about a month ago and fell in love with Monty a jungle carpet so I brought her home with me.Then on wednesday i finally broke and got another, his name is flash cos the bagger has some speed in him. He snapped at everything that past him because he was locked in his viv since october last year. I have kept all sorts of pets since i was 5 and what i learned was to read your animals behaviour and act accordingly. So I did when we got home Flash was more than a little curious but also very jumpy, against what everyone on all the forums said i handled him instead of putting him in the viv. He bit me over and over but stayed around instead of fleeing. The biting was just he's reaction to sudden movements so i tried to slow my movements and after 2 hours or so i put him to bed. It,s now sunday and from the pics u can see he lets me touch him as long as he sees the hand coming. My question is, why would you lock your pet up for a week or two before you introduce yourself, isn't it counter productive ? Because if I listened to everyone, Flash will still be in his viv and probably not as happy as he is now

The reason we say to leave your snake alone for the first week is because the change in habitat when being moved from one location to another is very stressful on the animals. I'm not sure about JCPs because I don't keep them, but I know with BPs, stress can trigger food refusal. The week acclimation period will let them adjust to their environment and de-stress before you start handling. Snakes are solitary creatures and do not "like" being handled. You being bit repeatedly was your snake being defensive because he/she was stressed and afraid. Biting is their defense mechanism. Had you immediately put the snake into his/her own tank or tub and left alone for a week may have eaten and then tolerated the handling without the repeated biting.

As for health reasons? Not sure there are health reasons for the one week acclimation period, but you should definitely be practicing quarantine and keeping your new addition as far away from your existing collection as possible. In another room on the other side of the house is preferable...
