    Our room is 24/7 ceiling fan on high, holes depends on the container, I never poke any in the lid though, our shoe boxes have 5 per side on all 4 sides, the biggest of the containers may have 12-20 per side..We use a soldering iron/pencil to poke holes without the burr a bit leaves behind..The hole itself is likely 1/8th to 3/16ths big..You don't want a hole large enough that they can push any of themselves out or it may create an abrasion area..If you want to stay with the cypress cut the dampnest down, chances are you may only need to wet it each time she sheds..It is tops in holding water since it is a water born tree..
