BP.Net say hi to Volvagia!

At last she is here!

After a long and tiring day (college, 3 hour round trip to get the snake, a fight with my GF, my first flat tire, amongst many other things) I managed to get my hands on Volvagia. As some of you know, she is a 2011 Female Pinstripe with a very (IMO) reduced pattern.

Since I don't want to post the same pictures twice (Bandwidth consciousness), HERE is the link to the PICS thread.

I have 2 questions for you guys/gals:
1- Is it normal for babies to be hyperventilating (I think it is because she was scared, but please correct me if I'm wrong) once I picked her up out of her hide? (she's not in her formal enclosure, Once I get her there, I will leave her alone for a week)
2- I think there's something wrong with the shape of her 'nose'. Could someone please check the pictures and give me an opinion?

When they're scared they can/will breathe heavy. I don't see anything wrong with her nose.

Aw, so you decided on a name! It's good. She is very cute. Sorry about your bad day- but now you have a sweet new baby to be lovin up on. Too bad you gotta leave her alone for a week, that is always soooo hard for me to do after feeding and during shed time...

UPDATE:

Today I moved her to her Under-construction Tank. At the moment it has 2 hides (Different), which she uses alternately (I guess that's good), about 1 inch of aspen, and a water bowl/stone. Later on this week I'll be adding sides and background to the tank (ceramic tiles, i have a friend whose father is a tile store owner, and will get me some nice tiles to choose from) and some driftwood (I guess) or something else to fill in some space.

On the not so bright side, she hasn't left the hides in her new tank (been prolly 4-5 good hours inside the hides). I think this is ok, right?


The UTH nor the Thermostat have arrived (although I have the homemade Rheostat), HOWEVER, the the ambient temperature is great. I haven't seen it below 80 nor above 90. The humidity is a bit high (70% +/- 5), but that will be worked soon.

Just a couple things regarding your husbandry - With your hides it is best if you offer two identical hides that way your snake is able to thermoregulate without having to pick which hide they feel more comfortable and secure in. 70% Humidity is okay as long as your substrate is not consistenly damp or moist. Get some belly heat on her and get your temperature grade and you are good to go.

No, actually i just changed my tire, it was 2 A.M. last nite, so i just used a can of the inflating foam.

About the 2 hides, she is constantly switching hides, but I think I'll be removing the skull one (looks soooo awesome) because it's a PITA to remove her from it, I think she loves it tho (unless I figure a way to open/close it ). 70% (According to the breeder who sold it) is ok, I think he always has good sheds, no precipitation can be seen, and the substrate is fully dry... SO FAR. about the temp, I know I should have a heat spot/cold spot, but there was something of a misunderstanding with the seller, BUT since the ambient is 84-ish I think it's safe until the UTH arrives (night are pretty hot too)
