    What to start with?

Looking to get started in BP's. If you were going to purchase two snakes, what two morphs would you start with? The two years it takes for the female to get to maturity gives my son and I the chance to see if we want to breed them. But, I don't want to get a couple years in and think "crud I should have got a .... instead". Price is also a factor. We want to be reasonable about what we pay for pet.

In this case, I would recommend that you get what you LOVE and not what random Internet folks suggest is their own favorite.

I know that may sound a bit trite, but it's so very true. I totally understand wanting to have folks offer up suggestions to give you ideas on what to think about... but please keep in mind that you'll get a totally different answer from everyone. And all sorts of price ranges as well. Everyone has a different idea about what might be "reasonable" to spend.

If you LOVE a bumblebee...and if that is a bit too pricy to start with...then maybe get a nice pastel and a spider.

That's just a for-instance, though. It's impossible to even start making suggestions without having a clue about what you like, what your goals might be, and what your budget is.

I agree you should go with what is as close to your dream snake as you can get.

Personally I would get a bee morph of some sort either a bumble or a cinny bee

they give you two separate genes in one snake that way and personally some of the bee color options out there are some of the coolest looking morphs out there.

and then a pin or a pin+ something else. that way I could work on spinners and whatever color options the second genes offered me.

No need to buy a pair now... the female will take way longer to breed anyway. Spend all the money you would have spent on two snakes buying just one double gene female. Then in a year or two if you decide you want to try breeding, buy a male to go with her.

Get whatever one you like, if it were me, a pewter or a firefly!

We have spent many hours at that website! It can be a bit overwhelming....allllllll the combinations! That is actually why I was asking the question. We have been raising different reptiles and amphibians for a few years but want to get focused on one and possibly breed. What I gathered from that website was to get a female of some sort first, possibly a second down the road a bit, and a male a year from now.

A couple people have mentioned Bumble bee's. That IS one of the snakes we want. We were thinking about waiting to get a male Bumble Bee. That way he would pass on multiple genes to go along with whatever genes the female would pass on. We are looking for variety... we like surprises!

Maybe somthing that's good looking and can be useful like a super pastel, ivory, or a lucy somthing that would guarantee a morph baby even if bred to a normal
