I don't think the community knows how to price them now. At least for toffee's, because now that we know they are just a supped up albino... what are they worth? Males may hold value, but the females should drop like a ROCK!

At the time I was writing that guide, most of the information that was available suggested to me that we were dealing with a standard case of Z-linkage. However, since then most of the information I have been able to find on banana/coral glow males being produced has suggested that this is not actually the case. I will probably revise the guide on my website to describe a hypothetical mutation (similar to the one I fabricated to explain W-linkage) when I get a full understanding of how the banana/cg mutation is inherited.

Thanks for chipping in Russ. You could rewrite it to talk about color blindness in humans, but then that'd throw the ZW/ZZ out of whack.

This is what I was thinking, but oh well.

I was just going to say that if it is as simple as sex linked, then that is easy. Obviously you can't produce a male from a male banana if he only passes on his Y chromosome if the banana gene is X linked. However the female passes along the X chromosome and if the banana gene is linked to the X chromosome, then you need a female banana to make male bananas. Which has been the common train of thought anyway.

there is obviously more to it than that though.

Snakes don't ascribe to the XX/XY system. They use the ZZ/ZW system, where males are ZZ and females are ZW, kind of opposite of humans.

BG, your a silly dude. I know exactly how to get a male.....

....make a phone call and write a big check(don't forget all those zeros). Then hope the wife doesn't complain about the hardwood floors she's been wanting for years.

I vaguely remember learning that in high school ....
So then if you have it W linked, that would make sense.

But my question is, how then are males able to produce more female bananas?
