Antibiotics are notoriously hard on the kidneys of reptiles. (Nephrotoxicity) Especially when they're sick enough that they aren't doing any drinking on their own to keep themselves hydrated.
What I meant by mentioning the vet saying that is, that I'd go with any reliable herp vet's advice over what is said on a forum. People mean well, but it can cause more harm than good sometimes.
