    Cleaning, Poop, and Probe question

So I think Kallista went to the bathroom in her cage today.I say I think because there was only urates it looked like and unless she spilled her water on her paper towels, urine also. No poop, but I assume that's normal for babies? (That or she's just waiting for her cage to be clean so she can poop in there. XD )
But I don't really know what to clean it with, so I just did what I do for my lizards- wipe it up with wet paper towels, wipe the area again with a wet paper towel, spray it with my vinegar/water mix and now I'm letting it soak. Is that alright?(I don't like using chemicals with my reptiles and vinegar seems to have worked keeping my lizard's cages clean when they go on their tiles. (Off topic, Kallista's trying to climb in and up my sleeve. XD)

And now for my question about the thermometer probe, I'm sure you accurite users know the probe is like a half cylinder type of thing.(Black rounded top with white sticky underneath that isn't so sticky after awhile. XD(mine isn't)) but do you have yours placed so it's upside down? (Black top touching the bottom of the tub where the heat pad is) or just sitting there so the black top is facing up and the sticky flat part it on the bottom? I just want to know what gets the more accurate read or where it measures the heat from?

I just use regular Dawn dish soap to clean my cages. As long as you get it rinsed enough I think alot of things would work just fine.

As for your probe, i think you have a much different one than my thermostat. Mine doesnt have a sticky part and mine cant be placed "upside down" so im not sure what you mean. sorry

My thermometer probe, not my thermostat probe.
I'm too lazy to upload this to photobucket, but here's a pic of the probe : http://www.google.com/imgres?q=acuri...AXQ__AM&zoom=1

And just dishsoap, huh? Okay thanks. :3

Okay, I'll see about using that next time... But I don't want the heat pad to get wet, and IDK how well it will stick if I take it off again.(It's stuck to the bottom of the tub, but I've also got duct tape on the cardboard and foil under it.)

I just got my thermostat, so I'm gonna go hook it up! :3

I actually use steam and some rags no soap. But there is absolutely no reason to not use vinegar. It kills quite a lot of nasty. Personally I use either Chlorahexidine or F10 disinfectants after but I actually think it might be over kill.

The big thing to remember as I think you know that it takes time for all disinfectants to work. Usually about 30 min.

i also just use hot hot water and a little dawn dish soap. then i rinse rinse rinse. if i could stand the smell of vinegar i would use it but it just drives me crazy.

if you take the uth off the tub you could stick where the tub sits at and if there is not any sticky left you can just tape down the edges or the uth. i like being able to put the whole tub under the faucet and rinse it.

Okay, then maybe I'll just stick with Vinegar. I don't mind the smell and it does clean nicely. (got all those nasty hard water spots off my gecko cage!)

And I did wait a long time letting the vinegar sit. I normally spray it on and then let it sit 20 or more minutes. (I think I let it sit maybe an hour since I was busy doing other things.)

Re: Cleaning, Poop, and Probe question

I will use dawn dish soup, also what I use because its mild and I actually know a few people that use on there snakes like those that go do educational events with there animals use a this lavender and chamamil baby bath soup. I normely use that to clean my cages with. never had a problem. I mean ok I don't give my snake a wash bath with it and the people I know don't do it all time but you can get a good size bottle from walmart in the walmart brand for like $1.50
