only pic so far, P.O. says shes a salmon hypo. She is a craigslist pick up/ rescue, drank water for 5 straight minutes once i got her home. She seems skinny but other wise healthy.

She actually doesn't look skinny at all. She looks to be in good condition. RTBs are not like BPs, they shouldn't be round.

Kinra is correct. Boas should have a more squared appearance, and tend to put on more length than girth in relation to Ball Pythons. Nice pick-up. You will enjoy boas...

She looks like a hypo. Easy way to tell is how clean she is. No flecking like a normal RTB . She also has that pretty orange/pink color rather that a grey. Hypos always have that grey head lol don't know why they couldn't be that pretty color all over lol. So I'd say you have a pretty little hypo girl. Congrats! She looks to be in pretty good shape considering the conditions you talked about.

No flecking on a hypo doesn't necessarily mean that a boa is or isn't a hypo. My little hypo girl is very peppered, yet she is a hypo (you can see pics of her on my collection page in my signature). Lots of hypos are usually clean, but then you have some like mine who are as peppered, if more so, than a normal BCI.

An easier way to tell is to look at her saddles: hypos will have "bow ties" - totally different than the )( markings like on a normal BCI or the {} ones on a BCC.

I also agree that she looks pretty good. More pics might help if you still think she's a bit skinny, but from this photo, she appears fine. Nice pattern and definitly a hypo.

I guess we all have different ways of determining whether a snake is "hypo" or not, but understanding what "hypo" means will help in determining whether a boa is or isn't "hypo". Hypo = hypomelanistic. This is a reduction of black pigment (not an absence of black - that would be albino). The lower levels of melanin (black pigment) gives the boa that nice pinkish color. "Salmon" refers to a specific line of hypomelanistic boas. Many hypo boas will have the "bow-tie" pattern with their saddles, but that is not exclusive to hypos nor does every hypo show that. You can have aberant pattern hypos, hypo jungles, reverse stripe hypos, etc that all have different saddle patterns. Flecking or speckling can and often does appear on hypos - only the "super hypos" will have that truly clear pink coloration.

Since hypomelanism is genetic, a hypo is referred to as a morph in boas. Yours is a hypo, but as far as what "type" or "locality" it is, that's very difficult if not impossible to tell from pictures. She is not a BCC as you aren't likely to find morphs with them (most people try to breed the BCCs true since they are the TRUE Red Tail Boas) so it's safe to say she's a BCI and most likely a common Columbian boa since, obviously, they are the most common. But again, it's hard to tell for sure. She is a very pretty snake though and a great pickup from craigs list!
